sshfs makes it convenient to mount a directory from a remote Linux computer on a local Linux computer. SSHFS-Win makes it easy to mount a directory from a remote Linux computer on your local Windows computer.

• Install the latest stable installer of WinFSP from here.

• Install the latest stable installer of SSHFS-Win from here.

• Open File Explorer, right-click on This PC and choose Map network drive. Choose a drive to mount at and in the Folder field enter: sshfsyourRemoteLogin@remoteComputer

By default, Windows will use your Windows password or credentials for the remote computer. If the password or credentials are different on the remote computer then choose the Connect using different credentials option.

SSHFS is Linux based software that needs to be installed on your server. On Ubuntu and Debian based systems it can be installed through apt-get. Apt-get install sshfs. To start we will need to create a local directory in which to mount the droplet’s file system. Mkdir /mnt/nameofdirectory.

1. SSHFS-Win is a minimal port of SSHFS to Windows. Under the hood it uses Cygwin for the POSIX environment and WinFsp for the FUSE functionality.
2. Windows SSH Client Options. There are several other clients and servers available. These are generally not supported for SSH key management and may not have commercial support or 24x7 support available. PuTTY is a free client for the SSH and telnet protocols. More information on PuTTY.

Windows will ask for your password at the remote computer. After that the home directory from your remote computer will be mounted at the Windows drive you chose. I found that I had full read-write access to the files mounted from remote.

Installation Instructions

ExpanDrive is a straightforward installation. Start by downloading our installer from our download page. Next, click our DMG file to open the installer.

Drag ExpanDrive into your Applications folder to finish installation. You will need to enter your PC's password in order to complete installation. This only happens upon the first connection to let ExpanDrive finish configuration. On macOS 10.14 and newer you will also be prompted to authorize our System Extension in the Security control panel on your mac.

Connection configuration

To create a new SSHFS connection inside ExpanDrive start by pressing the new connection button in the bottom-left of the app. This opens the drive configuration screen which lets you configure the various settings needed to mount your SFTP server.
